Did you know that the dodecahedron allows you to filter energy? My guide Charlie continues my education in sacred geometry with an explanation of the dodecahedron, and just why it should be a part of your meditation practice.
One of my teachers regularly uses the dodecahedron—one of the five Platonic Solids*—as part of her protection protocol in meditation and journeying. It is a channeled protocol, and while I use a similar channeled protocol, I never understood the properties this shape contained.
My quantum healing guide Charlie, a sacred geometry nerd, helped me pinpoint the reasons our guides and angels suggest the dodecahedron for meditation.
Charlie, can you explain the nature of the shape we call the dodecahedron?
I'm happy to do that! This shape is safety, protection, and challenge. The dodecahedron is an inherently filtering form. It allows the filtering of energies according to your intent. You can filter in energies that you want, or filter out energies you don't want.
What can this shape be used for?
The mathematics of the dodecahedron allow for the shielding of your energy. The dodecahedron affords a great deal of protection to those under or within it. In meditation, we use it to protect the self from dark or unhelpful energies.
In healing situations, shamans can use it to help draw in the healing energies needed, and to filter out unwanted, unhealthy energies.
Meditate and dream with this shape. It can protect your energy and also amplify your connection to Source.
So using it as my protection mechanism in meditation is an appropriate use of the shape?
Yes, definitely! And that is why we gave it to you. It's a good way to start your meditation.
Can you explain how to use the dodecahedron to shield one's energy?
When you begin your meditation, consider building the shape or visualizing the shape in your mind. You can either open a door and step inside, or you can build the shape around yourself. You can also invite in pets, ancestors, or guides to help you shield your energy. From there, ground yourself inside the shape into Mother Earth, or send a spear of energy down into the crystal matrix and ground yourself into Earth's crystal matrix.
Some people will need the mental and visual contact with Mother Earth. Others who are more attuned to crystals will do better visualizing a line of energy down into the crystal matrix. This protocol will both shield your energy and ground it. It’s a good way to protect yourself when you journey in meditation.
The regular convex dodecahedron—the Platonic Solid—has 12 flat faces shaped like pentagons. What is the significance of the 12 and 5 in this shape?
The 12 is an angelic number—meaning that it calls in angelic energies. That's why the dodecahedron shape is protective in meditation. 12 also breaks down to 3 in your numerology (1 + 2 = 3), and 3 is the pure essence of God: creativity, joy, sharing.
The 5 is a strong, stable expression. Remember that toy commercial from your youth: “Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down”? That, in essence, is the 5. It can spin and tilt, but that rounded bottom keeps it from falling flat on its face.
Therefore, the 5 expresses adaptability. It is also inherently welcoming and social. Think about a group of 4 people, and then a group of 5. Special accommodation must be made to include a 5th person in a group. The very shape of the group must be more open! It is easier for a new person to join a group of 5 than a group of 4. And as new people enter, new thoughts and ideas do, too. That means 5 is also an expression of learning.
So, the 12 expresses the creativity, joy, and sharing, while the 5 expresses adaptability and inclusion. Does anything more perfectly support meditation with the purpose of spiritual connection and expansion?

Note that this shape does not inherently heal. Rather, it allows the healer to filter in energies for healing and filter out unwanted, unhealthy energies.
Contemplating the shape, picturing yourself within it, can be spiritually protective and both spiritually and physically healing.
* The Platonic Solids are a series of geometric figures that each look the same, no matter which way you view them.
